Someone linked me this site and seeing "sold" with double what I paid for one, and these are modded when mine was OEM. Don't do this. Do people not use google and do research before buying things? I would think since we have google that everyone would know what things are valued.
That site probably has the most atrocious prices i've ever seen. Sure the cars have low miles but you can find cars with this many miles and in this condition and bring it over for half. Every one of these cars are DOUBLE what it would cost to land them aside the GTRs which are maybe like $5000 over price.
I should sell mine and buy two or get a GTR. I'm seriously considering it now. I'm in the middle of modding it, just need to get a tune, and i'll put it up on ebay with a $15k minimum bid for fun and see what happens. Maybe buy a GTS-T and a Pulsar GTIR? We'll see.
Thanks lazy people and people who don't know what google is.
For people here, don't use shady stateside "JDM" dealers. Not even rightdrive.ca would charge this much for these and they are on the higher side of importers. No prices have not gone up this high, you can still pay the $7k to your door I did for a good low mile lightly modded or unmodded GTS-T.
The 300ZXs there are what you would pay for a Skyline. They are just jacking up the prices for FNF ricers who think a GTS-T is anything more than a Japanese Mustang GT.

As someone who has imported a car and talked to a lot of curious people about the process, people are completely scared to death of the process. Import dealers are playing upon those too afraid or uneducated to do it themselves.
I think there's absolutely a premium to be paid for someone to do the work of selecting a good specimen and going through the import process instead of you, but it's not anywhere near the 100% premium seen here.

Bingo. Risk aversion makes a big impact on pricing. Same reason used car dealers charge more than you can find on craigslist.

I need to scoop up some JDM goodness before you Americans ruin it all. Good thing I've got a 10 year head start. :P

A car is worth what someone is willing to pay. Don't be mad at the dealer IMO, they'd lower the price if no one pays up.

Not looking to get into an import personally but the rightdrive.ca site has some really interesting cars! Are there other sites that we can waste time checking out pictures on should know about?

I dare you to sell your GTS-T with a high reserve and use that money to get a GT-R of R32 or the soon-to-be-ULTRA-popular '95 GT-anything.

Is this also overpriced?

He really should, and continue selling everything he can bring to the states.

Pacidic coast jdm. Thats who I used
Right drive was 8000 for a gtst at the time. Then I would have to ship it from their location to vegas. Mine was 7000 after shipping.

I am seriously considering it. I want a pulsar gtir. I could sell this and buy another gtst and one of those.

Its true but its not hard to find a good vehicle and if you have a good importer there is little to fear. The japanese inspections are really extensive

If you can sit on a '95 R33 for 4-5 years, then it'll be worth its weight in gold since it's the only R33 worth importing. '96 and up will have to find a way to make them OBD2-compatible...which is near impossible/really expensive.
![]() 01/04/2015 at 12:09 |
|
I don't think you have to make them OBD2 compatible if they are EPA and DOT exempt.
Like my car wasn't even tested for smog at all.
![]() 01/04/2015 at 12:18 |

I think that's only true for cars older than '96. I've read stories of US companies charging north of 40k$ to convert R33 GT-Rs (since only '96-'98 are eligible for instant-importing...if you can convert them) to OBD2 along with US-compliant glass (and that process took months on its own and its supposedly very sketchy).

Those R33s are not 21 years old yet for EPA exemption and is not DOT exempt or NHTSA exempt so they have to be converted to US spec.
Pretty much when your car is exempt from everything (hence the "25 year rule") it basically is almost like a kit car unless your state has other laws. California for example.

I won't believe it until I see people import '96 GT-Rs into the states and not have them crushed within months.

You will have to wait until 2021 for that, it's still a while off.

I feel like there is something to be said about being able to test drive the vehicle, though. This is a business, they see demand and they supply. They have a showroom for you to see and drive the vehicle, Just like almost everything you would buy at a store, if you are able to buy direct you will pay a lot less, but you wont be able to test it out first or see it in person. There is overhead to pay for and they are not doing this out of the kindness of their heart.

Test driving is not worth double the price of the car.

the one you posted is a type-m, which I’m not up on gtr’s but I’m guessing that’s why they asked more than what they normally ask. most of their gts-t have an asking price of $2k less, if you look at their sales history. Also, I am willing to bet, just like most dealers you can haggle the price down a bit. Also, your point is no different than saying “ well I can get a bmw e30 for $2000 off craigslist in europe and have it shipped to me, without seeing it first. Or I could go to the used car dealer, test drive and inspect and pay $4,000 for the same condition e30, what kind of IDIOT would pay for the $4k one?!” well, my friend a lot of people would.

As far as type-m vs non type m i’ve never seen a GTS-T that wasn’t a type m. A friend of mine claims that only automatic sedans were sold as non type-m but i haven’t confirmed that yet.
Every GTS-T i saw selling was type-m. If it didn’t say it was type m I would check the VIN or pics (for sumitomo brakes) and they were also type ms.
As far as that E30 even though $4k is double $2000 it’s such a low investment where that doesn’t matter much. $7k compared to $14k for sure is. Especially considering the cleanest of GTS-T in Japan at the time were all like $3000-$4000 just like that E30.

have you had any maintanence issues with yours? if you have or if you should need to,do you work on the car itself or do you feel like you could take it to somewhere and have it worked on? I am thinking about getting something, and I do simple repairs myself but if the tranny goes I would have to take it somewhere... do you think its pretty simple to take it somewhere even if I don’t live in California or any real car enthusiast state.

I’ve had only regular “old car” issues and I have worked on it myself and taken it places. Don’t take it to a regular place though take it specifically to a shop that works on modded cars preferably nissans.
I took it to a regular place and they fucked shit up trying to fix my overheating issues i’ve had. Though it could be that place was just terrible.
The car has been reliable for a car of it’s age.

How did you import yours? what was the cost?

Will Pacific Coast JDM take care of the paperwork you need for an American registration? I couldn’t determine that from their site...:/

Yes I had everything I needed at the DMV

That’s fantastic! Thank’s for the quick reply, a GTS-T or a Soarer/Chaser are dream cars!

Soarers and Chasers are CHEAP if you want one of those now is the time to buy. GTS-T will be quite a bit more money now. 0
